Simphonic was founded by Robert Wakeling, former CTO of Magic4 after his handset software business integrated by OEMs like Samsung, LG, Motorola and others was acquired by Openwave. Recognizing the unique capabilities and strategic position of the SIM card, Robert began development on the first iteration of Simphonic’s Quality of Experience (QoE) product in 2005 with British Telecom partnering on the company’s initial Proof of Concept. Licensing by other top European operators followed, along with expansion to Tier-one carriers in Mexico, Africa and the United States.
In parallel with operator deployments, Simphonic has worked closely with the top 3 worldwide SIM manufacturers since 2009, including product development, roadmap and white label co-selling of Simphonic’s QoE product offering.

While there are numerous third parties developing traditional SIM-based applets for IoT and private network QoE reporting, Simphonic has focused from day one on creating a carrier-grade architecture matured by numerous MNO lab environments, trials and commercial deployments.
After nearly 2 decades of operator partnership and over 100-man years of development, Simphonic has earned the privileged industry position as the only third-party software-enhanced SIM product deployed by mobile carriers commercially at scale throughout the world.
The humble SIM is perhaps the most ubiquitous microprocessor in history and has played a critical role in authentication and secure data storage in mobile. Complete with CPU, memory and a filing system, today’s SIM cards have comparable RAM to the Apollo Guidance Computer that provided navigation and control for the Apollo command and lunar modules.
While the world has focused on optimizing high powered processing for

Simphonic’s platform provides detailed mobile network performance data while maintaining the highest standards of privacy and security. Adhering strictly to GDPR and PPI regulations, the platform never handles any personal data or information that could identify individual subscribers. This commitment to privacy has been verified through rigorous reviews by digital security offices and privacy advocates from tier-one carriers in the US and EMEA.
While device information is entirely obfuscated into a randomized anonymous serial number, as a SIM-based platform, even the anonymous serial number is protected via the same cryptographic algorithms that maintain banking and government access security. Both the SIM and eSIM are classified as 'secure elements,' ensuring that encryption remains uncompromised. For modern devices, this typically means encryption using ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384, with legacy devices secured through 3DES. Simphonic utilizes the secure element of the SIM itself as the source for encryption keys, eliminating the potential risks associated with server-side key generation. Additionally, the platform’s Applet command protocol supports key cycling, allowing mobile operators to apply policies that regularly rotate encryption keys for added security.
With this robust encryption architecture and leadership in post-quantum key exchange at the SIM level, Simphonic provides the highest levels of privacy protection and data security, while providing accurate, anonymous and aggregated insights into mobile network and handset performance KPIs.
